Roles and permissions

Synjar uses role-based access control to manage what team members can do.

Available roles

Owner

Full control over the workspace, including billing.

One owner per workspace - Ownership can be transferred.

Admin

Manage workspace content and settings.

Best for: Team leads, content managers

Member

View and search content, limited creation abilities.

Best for: General team members

Changing roles

Promote a member

  1. Go to Settings > Team
  2. Find the member
  3. Click their current role
  4. Select the new role

Demote a member

Same process - admins can be changed to members.

warning

Owners cannot be demoted. Transfer ownership first.

Transferring ownership

  1. Go to Settings > Team
  2. Find the member to make owner
  3. Click Make Owner
  4. Confirm the transfer

You become an Admin after transfer.

Removing members

  1. Go to Settings > Team
  2. Find the member
  3. Click Remove
  4. Confirm removal

Removed members immediately lose access.

Best practices

Role assignment

  • Give minimum necessary permissions
  • Use Admin for content managers
  • Use Member for viewers/contributors

Security

  • Review team membership quarterly
  • Remove departed employees promptly
  • Transfer ownership before owner leaves
